In Psalm 9:1-2, David wrote,
I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart;
I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.
I will be glad and exult in you;
I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
If we’ll follow David’s lead, what we find is fuel for worship and opportunity in the form of today.
I will give thanks to the LORD with my whole heart.
What are you thankful for? Today is an opportunity to give thanks.
I will recount all of your wonderful deeds.
Where can you look back and see God at work in your life? “If it had not been the LORD who was on our side…” (Psa 124:1). Where can you make that “If” personal? What stories from the Bible continue to stir your heart and give you courage? Today is an opportunity to recount the wonderful deeds of the LORD.
I will be glad and exult in you.
To “exult” is to give voice to a lively and triumphant joy. Today is an opportunity to express the joy you have in the LORD.
I will sing praise to your name, O Most High.
The rest of Psalm 9 goes on to give multiple reasons why he is worthy of our praise and our living for the sake of his name this week. He sits enthroned forever. He has established his throne for justice. He judges the world with righteousness and uprightness. He is a stronghold in times of trouble. Those who know his name put their trust in him, “for you, O LORD, have not forsaken those who seek you” (9:7-10).
Today is an opportunity. To give thanks. To recount. To be glad and exult. To sing praises.
This week is an opportunity. To put our trust in the LORD. To tell among the peoples his deeds (9:11). To rejoice in his salvation (9:14).
The LORD has made himself known (9:16). He’s blessed us with a new week. He’s given us the opportunities of today. Let us be glad and exult in him.
