Centered on the LORD

Psalm 37 is a beautiful song of David. I encourage you to take the time to read the entire psalm sometime today, but notice especially the simple, straightforward encouragements given throughout. Allow them to serve as a God-breathed source of mid-week refreshment and perspective on what really matters:

  • Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers (37:1)
  • Trust in the LORD, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness (37:3)
  • Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart (37:4)
  • Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act (37:5)
  • Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him (37:7)
  • Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath (37:8)
  • Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil (37:8)
  • Turn away from evil and do good (37:27)
  • Wait for the LORD and keep his way (37:34)
  • Mark the blameless and behold the upright, for there is a future for the man of peace (37:37)

Notice a pattern?

IN the LORD. FOR the LORD. TO the LORD. BEFORE the LORD.

What happens when we take God at his word, keep him at the center of everything, and allow passages like Psalm 37 to fill and shape our hearts?

The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD;
he is their stronghold in the time of trouble.
The LORD helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him. (37:39-40)

I don’t know about you, but I needed that reminder today.
