Foundation Stones for Your Week

Psalm 11:7 uncovers three stones that together can serve as a rock-solid foundation for your week.

For the LORD is righteous;
he loves righteous deeds;
the upright shall behold his face.

All three lines in that ancient Hebrew poem are loaded with significance.

  • Foundation Stone #1 – God’s nature: my Creator is righteous. His way is always the right way.
  • Foundation Stone #2 – God’s will: he has every right to expect me, as his creation, to listen to him as the Creator. Following his right way leads to righteous deeds, and my Creator loves righteous deeds.
  • Foundation Stone #3 – my choices: God isn’t going to force me into paths of righteousness; that’s something I have to choose. A life spent in right-way-ness produces righteous fruit from a heart that has been set upright. But the right things aren’t always the easy things to do. The right paths aren’t the easiest trails to walk. So will it all be worth it? “The upright shall behold his face.” What a promise!

Psalm 11:4 emphasizes,

The LORD is in his holy temple;
the LORD’s throne is in heaven;
his eyes see, his eyelids test the children of man.

What does he see in and from us? If we will build our lives on those three foundation stones, we’ll find strength for today…

In the LORD I take refuge… (11:1)

…and bright hope for tomorrow…

…the upright shall behold his face.

Happy Lord’s day.
