April Fools

There are two key passages of Scripture for today’s thought.

  1. One is the warning of David in Psalm 14:1.
  2. The other is the practical reasoning of James 2:19.

Do you believe in God? Are you acting like it? When it comes right down to it, who is the bigger “fool”?

  1. The man who says in his heart, “There is no God,” and spends the rest of his life without a divine care in the world?
  2. Or the man who claims to believe in and love God, who works day in and day out to put up a convincing hypocritical front for other people, all the while living a deceitful life of pretense when no one is watching?

Indeed, the fool says in his heart, “There is no God,” but he is not the only fool.

Let’s do more than talk the pretty religious talk today.   Let’s make this a day of faith-filled obedience to the Father. Let’s be disciples of belief-based action today.   Let’s work hard to keep the masks of hypocrisy off of our faces. Let’s diligently guard against pretense and deceit in our dealings with others.

In short, let’s profess our belief in the one God of heaven and earth, and then live as if we believe it.
