What Does It Mean to be Gospel-Empowered?

To be empowered is to be given ability or opportunity; to be entrusted, equipped, enabled, or strengthened. We’re often encouraged to feel “empowered” when it comes to our civic rights, our physical fitness, and our past obstacles. But disciples of Christ build their lives on a different sort of empowerment.

Our aim at Laurel Canyon in 2014 is to be God-shaped–as individuals, families, and a congregation. To be God-shaped is to be Father-defined, Christ-centered, and Spirit-led. This matters because the Father-defined, Christ-centered, and Spirit-led come to be empowered in ways that truly matter most.
