“But God”

Ephesians 2 contains a phrase that changes everything“but God.”

“You were,” Paul writes:

  • Dead in your trespasses and sins in which you once walked
  • Walking the course of this world
  • Following the prince of the power of the air
  • Living in the passions of your flesh
  • By nature a child of wrath
  • Separated from Christ
  • Without God and without hope

“BUT GOD,” Paul writes:

  • Is rich in mercy
  • Loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, with a great love
  • Made us alive together with Christ
  • Saved us by grace
  • Raised us up and seated us with him
  • Recreated us in Jesus for good works

“Now,” Paul writes, if you are in Jesus:

  • You have been brought near to God by the blood of Christ
  • You have been granted access to the gracious, all-powerful Father
  • Jesus himself is your peace
  • You are a member of God’s household
  • You are being built into a holy temple, for God’s glory

“But God.” Just two words, but two words that change everything. Whomever you are, “but God” gives you the perspective you need today. Wherever you are, “but God” defines your purpose today. Whatever you face, “but God” gives you hope today.

“But God” changes everything.
