Psalm 3: “You, O LORD, Are a Shield About Me”

Today’s Bible reading is Psalm 3, ‘A Psalm of David, When He Fled From Absalom His Son.’ It’s only 8 verses long and well worth your time, especially if you’re going through a difficult season in life.

Notice the despair David is feeling in verses 1 and 2:

O LORD, how many are my foes!
Many are rising against me;
many are saying of my soul,
there is no salvation for him in God.

And yet, notice where David is able to rest in verse 3:

But you, O LORD, are a shield about me,
my glory, and the lifter of my head.

This is our God: a shield about us, the lifter of our heads when we are weary and overwhelmed, the ultimate source of glory.

Few sections of the Bible teach us to pray like the Psalms. Take the time to meditate on Psalm 3 today. It can serve as a breath of fresh God-provided air for your prayers.
