Philippians 1: To Live is Christ

Today’s Bible reading is Philippians 1, the introduction to one of Paul’s most famous and encouraging letters. It gives us a God-breathed tutorial on joy in the Lord–the sort of joy that can endure, inspire, and fuel me on the road to heaven.

One of Paul’s most famous statements in Philippians 1 is found in verse 21: “For to me to live is Christ.” It’s a profound confession, but how can I make that confession personal? How can I follow in the same footsteps today? “For to me to live is Christ.” What does that look like on a Monday in 2017?

Consider Paul’s determination in the previous verse: “with full courage now as always Christ will be honored in my body” (Phil 1:20). Here is the key to having a “to-live-is-Christ” sort of Monday. Honor Christ in your body.

Honor Christ in the way you speak, the way you act, the way you treat others, the way you react to the circumstances around you. Honor Christ in the way you spend your time, the way you prioritize, and the way handle temptation.

“For to me to live is Christ.” It’s an awesome declaration. It can be your declaration, if you are willing to honor Christ in your body. That’s a goal worth striving for today.
