His Church, Our Blessings

“Who do people say that I am?” Did you know that Jesus asked that question in Matthew 16? In connection with that question, he made an incredible promise: “I will build my church” (Matt 16:18). From that point forward, throughout the rest of the New Testament, we learn exactly why Jesus described the church as “my” church—the church belongs to Jesus! To what degree, and why is that a very good thing? (Eph 1:15-21)

HIS Church: HIS Body (Eph 1:22-23)

  • The blessing of direction (Eph 4:15-16)
  • The blessing of support (Rom 12:4-8)

HIS Church: HIS Bride (2 Cor 11:2-3)

  • The blessing of a self-sacrificial, perfectly faithful groom (Eph 5:25-30)
  • The blessing of eager anticipation of what is to come (Rev 19:6-9)

HIS Church: HIS Household (Eph 2:18-19)

  • The blessing of an environment perfectly suited for growth (Eph 4:11-15)
  • The blessing of opportunity to get to know our Father in heaven (2 Cor 6:16-18)

HIS Church: HIS Kingdom (Col 1:13-14)

  • The blessing of citizenship (Phil 3:20-21)
  • The blessing of protection (Heb 12:28-29)

HIS Church: HIS Temple (Eph 2:19-22)

  • The blessing of access to God (1 Pet 2:9-10)
  • The blessing of opportunity to sacrifice and serve (1 Pet 2:5; Rom 12:1)

The church belongs to Jesus, and that is a very good thing. “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places…” (Eph 1:3)
