God’s written revelation to mankind reveals not one, but three “triumphal entrances” of Jesus. His communication leads us to two pivotal questions: Why do they matter? Are you ready?
Triumphal Entry #1: JERUSALEM (Matt 21:1-11)
- The Jewish Passover was less than one week away (John 12:12)
- The manner of Jesus’ entrance was a fulfillment of prophecy (Zech 9:9)
- A multitude praised Jesus as Lord because of his mighty works (Luke 20:37)
- The multitude had grown at the news of Lazarus’ resurrection (John 12:17-19)
- The crowds were shouting, “Hosanna!” (Matt 21:9)
- Jesus affirms their praise as appropriate and fitting (Luke 20:39-40)
- The Lamb of God has arrived to die for the sins of the world (John 1:29)
Triumphal Entry #2: HEAVEN (Acts 1:1-3, 6-9; Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14)
- Jesus repeatedly referred to himself as “the Son of Man” throughout the Gospels
- All authority in heaven and on earth had been given to him (Matt 28:18)
- These are things into which even the angels had longed to look (1 Pet 1:9-12)
- The risen Son of God has been seated at the right hand of the Father (Heb 12:2)
- From the time of his ascension, the promise has been: he will return (Acts 1:10-11)
Triumphal Entry #3: The SECOND COMING (Phil 3:20; 1 Thes 1:9-10)
- That day will be more awesome than we can imagine (2 Thes 1:5-10)
- Long ago we were told: the face of the LORD is against those who do evil (Psa 34:16)
- The sure and steadfast word of God: every eye will see him (Rev 1:7)
- Because of his grace, these don’t have to be terrible thoughts (Rev 1:5-6; Col 1:13-14)
- Those “in Christ” have nothing to fear (1 Thes 4:16-5:11)
- The pivotal question: “Am I ‘in Christ’?” (Gal 3:26-27)
