The God Who is Able to Flip the Switch

The God Who is Able to Flip the Switch

It doesn’t take long for most parents to find the OFF or MUTE switches on new toddler toys. The concept is simple: flip the switch and you change the toy’s function. Flip the switch and the outcome is altered. Most parents exercise a certain amount of “sovereignty” over the switches in their household.

Romans 8:28 makes a bold assertion: “We know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” What can we learn about this God who is able to “flip the switch” on difficult circumstances in order to accomplish his glorious purposes?

  1. In the life of Joseph, the switch was flipped from hatred to preservation
  2. In the life of Job, the switch was flipped from suffering to merciful compassion
  3. In the life of Esther, the switch was flipped from annihilation to deliverance
  4. In the life of Paul, the switch was flipped from imprisonment to the advancement of the gospel
  5. In the life of Christians in Smyrna, the switch was flipped from persecution to refinement
  6. In the life of Christians today, the switch can be flipped from trials to perfection
  7. Because in the life of Jesus, the switch was flipped from an untimely death to the offer of eternal life

Do you trust the God who is able to flip the switch?
