Have this mind among yourselves, which is yours in Christ Jesus, who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross. (Phil 2:5-8)
Why did Jesus die? There are many Biblical answers to that question. One answer is provided by Paul in Philippians 2:5-8. Jesus died to call us to follow his example of humility.
As you remember today, realize that Jesus is so much more than an admirable historical figure worthy of a few moments of passing thought on this first day of the week. As you remember, appreciate that you are being called–even today–by an omnipotent Savior who intends for you to follow his lead.
“Have this mind among yourselves.” Think this week like Jesus thought.
He “made himself nothing.” Follow in his footsteps this week.
He “took the form of a servant.” Be inspired by and imitate his example of humility.
“He humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
As you remember on this first day of the week, hear his voice and make it personal. “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23)
