Learn Like a Berean

Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica…

Not because of their titles, estates, pedigree, or wealth.

…they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so (Acts 17:11).

What can we do to be noble—excellent, admirable, honorable—in the sight of our Creator like those Jews who lived in Berea?

  • Interact with teaching and preaching with an open Bible
  • Don’t “close the book” on teaching and preaching and rush on to the rest of your life
  • Allow the Scriptures to shape you every day, as a way of life
  • Approach opportunities to learn from the Scriptures with eagerness
  • Prepare yourself to examine the Scriptures
  • Be confident that you can discover, study, and understand God-revealed truth
  • Recognize that some things which claim to be from God are not
  • Test teaching that surprises, disrupts, or challenges your understanding against the Scriptures before you simply discard it
  • Be humble enough to take God at his word, no matter who you are
  • Give the Scriptures the final say as the revealed will of the ultimate authority
