Don’t Waste Your Summer!

Dont Waste Your Summer

Look carefully then how you walk, not as unwise but as wise, making the best use of the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. (Eph 5:15-16)

For many, summertime prompts images revolving around rest and relaxation of some sort. Shakespeare’s 400-year-old words continue to resonate: “Summer’s lease hath all too short a date.” How can we avoid wasting our Summer? What can we do to make it a season of growth in those areas of life that matter most? Here are a few suggestions:

  1. Don’t lose sight of the big picture (Eccl 11:9; 12:1-7, 13-14).
  2. Challenge yourself to grow (2 Pet 3:18).
  3. Spend some intimate time with God while enjoying his beautiful creation (Psa 16:7-8).
  4. Deliberately connect with people who will enhance your walk with God (Prov 27:17).
  5. Resolve to be truly present in your interactions with others (Matt 7:12).
  6. Take advantage of opportunities to show hospitality (1 Pet 4:8-11).
  7. Get some exercise (1 Tim 4:7-8).
  8. Look for opportunities to serve (Matt 20:25-28; Acts 20:35).
  9. Take the time to impact the hearts of children (Mark 10:13-16).
  10. Enjoy it all to the glory of God (1 Cor 10:31; 1 Pet 4:11).
