What Exactly is “Congregational Autonomy”?

What exactly is “congregational autonomy,” and why does it matter? This sermon surveys The Acts of the Apostles in an effort to recognize and appreciate the fulfillment of Jesus’ commission in Acts 1:8:

“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

How did Christians of the first century go about meeting this expectation? How did churches operate under the guidance of Spirit-led apostles? What sort of enduring wisdom and instruction can we glean—even 2,000 years later—from this God-breathed historical account?

This sermon was delivered on June 9, 2013.
