“I love those who love me, and those who seek me diligently find me.” (Prov 8:17)
Here’s a challenge for men at the start of a busy work week.
- Single guy: seek Lady Wisdom more diligently than you seek an eligible woman to marry.
- Married guy: pursue Lady Wisdom more eagerly than you pursue your wife.
Proverbs 8 clearly establishes that this will not be wasted effort. You will not be disappointed with the outcome. Listen up.

__ On the heights beside the way,
____ at the crossroads she takes her stand;
__ beside the gates in front of the town,
____ at the entrance of the portals she cries aloud:
__ “To you, O men, I call,
____ and my cry is to the children of man.
__ O simple ones, learn prudence;
____ O fools, learn sense.
__ Hear, for I will speak noble things,
____ and from my lips will come what is right,
__ for my mouth will utter truth;
____ wickedness is an abomination to my lips.
__ All the words of my mouth are righteous;
____ there is nothing twisted or crooked in them.
__ They are all straight to him who understands,
____ and right to those who find knowledge.
__ Take my instruction instead of silver,
____ and knowledge rather than choice gold,
__ for wisdom is better than jewels,
____ and all that you may desire cannot compare with her.
__ “I, wisdom, dwell with prudence,
____ and I find knowledge and discretion.
__ The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil.
__ Pride and arrogance and the way of evil
____ and perverted speech I hate.
__ I have counsel and sound wisdom;
____ I have insight; I have strength.
__ By me kings reign,
____ and rulers decree what is just;
__ by me princes rule,
____ and nobles, all who govern justly.
__ I love those who love me,
____ and those who seek me diligently find me.
__ Riches and honor are with me,
____ enduring wealth and righteousness.
__ My fruit is better than gold, even fine gold,
____ and my yield than choice silver.
__ I walk in the way of righteousness,
____ in the paths of justice,
__ granting an inheritance to those who love me,
____ and filling their treasuries.
__ “The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work,
____ the first of his acts of old.
__ Ages ago I was set up,
____ at the first, before the beginning of the earth.
__ When there were no depths I was brought forth,
____ when there were no springs abounding with water.
__ Before the mountains had been shaped,
____ before the hills, I was brought forth,
__ before he had made the earth with its fields,
____ or the first of the dust of the world.
__ When he established the heavens, I was there;
____ when he drew a circle on the face of the deep,
__ when he made firm the skies above,
____ when he established the fountains of the deep,
__ when he assigned to the sea its limit,
____ so that the waters might not transgress his command,
__ when he marked out the foundations of the earth,
____ then I was beside him, like a master workman,
__ and I was daily his delight,
____ rejoicing before him always,
__ rejoicing in his inhabited world
____ and delighting in the children of man.
__ “And now, O sons, listen to me:
____ blessed are those who keep my ways.
__ Hear instruction and be wise,
____ and do not neglect it.
__ Blessed is the one who listens to me,
____ watching daily at my gates,
____ waiting beside my doors.
__ For whoever finds me finds life
____ and obtains favor from the Lord,
__ but he who fails to find me injures himself;
____ all who hate me love death.” (Prov 8:1-36)
