What was the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?

The Baptism of the Holy Spirit

There are several “baptisms” mentioned in the Bible:

  1. The baptism of Moses (1 Cor 10:1-2) — the historical crossing of the Red Sea.
  2. The baptism of suffering (Mark 10:35-40) — overwhelming pain or persecution.
  3. The baptism of John (Mark 1:4-5) — a means of preparing for the coming of the Christ.

But what about the baptism of the Holy Spirit? What role did it play in God’s plan for mankind?

This sermon uses the New Testament to explore the promise and purpose behind the baptism of the Holy Spirit. It emphasizes the “one baptism” (Eph 4:4-5) still in effect by God’s design and ends on this important note: there is another baptism yet to be fulfilled in the future (Matt 3:11-12). It was delivered on October 7, 2012 as Part 5 in a series of sermons on the Holy Spirit.
