What Exactly is the "Prosperity Gospel"?

In November and December 2011, Jason Hardin preached a series of sermons entitled, “What God Says About Your Money.” Part 7 (the final sermon in this series) investigates what is frequently dubbed “the prosperity gospel” or “the gospel of health and wealth.” Well-known televangelists and New York Times best-selling authors continue to promote simple formulas for abundant possessions and prosperous living. Millions are told every week, “God wants you to be rich and the more you give away, the wealthier you’ll become!”

But what does the Bible say? Has God promised to make us prosperous if we obey him? Is there a direct cause-and-effect relationship between righteousness and prosperity?
