What About Homosexuality?

Few issues are more volatile in modern American culture than the issue of homosexuality.   But should it even be an issue?   And if so, why?   How should the issue be defined?   And how should we, as disciples of Christ, live and think in light of the issue?

This sermon encourages discussion beyond politics, preference, culture, and personal opinion.   It affirms God’s love for all people.   So often, hatred and bitterness are found swirling around divisive social issues such as homosexuality.   God loves everyone (Romans 5:6-8).   And yet, even though God loves us, He does not want us to continue in our sins.

Therefore, it is of utmost importance to ask, “What has God told us in His word about this issue?”   This sermon examines the teaching of both the Old and New Testaments on homosexuality.   It encourages humble, personal reflection in the light of divine revelation.

How important for all of us to appreciate that God shows no partiality (Acts 10:34).   Sin is an equal-opportunity prohibitor on the pathway to heaven (1 Corinthians 6:9).   But God also shows no partiality in offering the gospel invitation of grace and mercy so that we might be freed from the bondage of our sins.
