(CNN) – In her first interview since giving birth to son Tripp, Bristol Palin, daughter of Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, said it’s not “realistic” to expect abstinence outside of marriage.
“Everyone should be abstinent…but it’s not realistic at all,” the 18-year-old told Fox’s Greta Van Susteren, adding that having sex as a teenager had become “more and more accepted now” among people her age.

Not realistic? Says whom? Who has the right to define reality? What is “realistic”? What is “truth”?
Truth is reality as revealed by the God who made us. Truth is irrefutable and irreproachable consecrated fact. It is the truth of Jesus that makes us free in the first place (John 8:32), and it is found in God’s book (John 17:17).
Popular views of what is and is not very “realistic” are constantly evolving, but the Creator continues to ask,
Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (1 Corinthians 6:19-20)
How important that modern parents would be willing to clearly communicate the boundaries of sexuality as defined by the Creator so that young people might grow to glorify God in their bodies…

Now, perhaps more than ever before, parents must be willing to explicitly lead their children to an understanding that society’s views of what is acceptable and expected from young people do not harmonize with the Creator’s original intentions. Do you want your children to abstain from the lusts of the flesh? Then you’re going to have to talk to them about it. What is off-limits? And not just what, but why?
Only then will we have done what we can to equip our children so that they might ask, in the integrity of their hearts, “How can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?” (Genesis 39:9)
If we asked someone who had maintained abstinence until marriage, they might have a different perspective. I’m guessing many who haven’t been abstinent think it is unrealistic. They want to think that in order to help placate their aching conscience.
