Safely Gathered In

Wondering what to say when a friend or loved one loses a child?   Maybe you’ve been there.   I got word last week that a dear brother and sister in Christ lost their firstborn baby girl almost immediately after delivery.   The heartbreak on such an occasion is devastating to say the least.   Perhaps these words, written more than 100 years ago, could bring a small measure of comfort to someone going through a similar ordeal.

Safely, safely, gathered in,
Far from sorrow, far from sin;
God has saved from weary strife,
In its dawn, this fresh young life;
Now it waits for us above,
Resting in the Savior’s love;
Jesus, grant that we may meet
There, adoring, at Thy feet.
