A Filth-Free Week Of Receiving The Word

James 1:21 forms an excellent theme verse for the new week, don’t you think?   It can be broken down into two parts.

Part 1
Whatever you say, whatever you do, wherever you go, put away all of the filth.   Don’t wade into it today.   Don’t invite it into your life this week.   Do whatever you must to have a filth-free walk with your holy Creator.   Diligently apply Part 1 of James 1:21, and by this time next week, you won’t be sorry.

Part 2
Remember the parable of the sower (Luke 8:4-15)?   The Word of God is compared to a seed.   Seeds must be planted in order to flourish in soil that has been prepared to receive the seeds.   With that in mind, there are a number of things that can so very easily take root in your heart this week:

  • Covetousness
  • Jealousy
  • Bitterness
  • Anger
  • Resentment

Take a moment to think of practical steps you can make today to implant “the word” a little deeper into your life.   Spend time in the Scriptures today.   Take advantage of the awesome privilege of prayer today.   Set aside a few moments of the day for quiet meditation on what is most important in life.

Make sure to take deliberate steps of preparing and positioning yourself throughout this week to meekly receive the implanted word which is able to spare you from the filth and ultimately save your soul.   Remember Part 1 and 2 of James 1:21, and you’ll have a great week in the Master’s service.
