If Sinners Entice You

Friday.   Finally.   The beginning of what we hope will be an enjoyable weekend.   Out of school or work.   Some money in our pockets and time on our hands.

What will you do this weekend?

Whatever you do, whomever you’re with, wherever you go, remember the wise warning of Solomon: “if sinners entice you, do not consent” (Proverbs 1:10).   You might as well recognize right now that it will be difficult.   Odds are, the temptations that come before you will be inviting.   You’ll want to get involved.   That’s what it means to be “enticed.”

But the whole point is, you have a choice in the matter.   You will choose either to do what you know to be wrong, or you will choose “not to consent.”

When that enticing moment comes, remember this truth.   When your mind starts to race, remember Daniel, a young man who “made up his mind” (Daniel 1:8) to remain pure in God’s sight.   When the conflicting choices become evident, have your mind already made up.   You will keep yourself pure this weekend, no matter what.
